Upcycled!! It's Earth Day

LOL :-D

Yes that's what it has made me do. Wondering what could be made of empty kitchen paper towel/toilet paper rolls??

I was browsing throught Pinterest and found some amazing designs for wall art. So there started my idea of collecting empty rolls, which gave my husband some serious doubts about my sanity. ;-)
He was quite used to the fact that I hated discarding unused stuff. But how could empty rolls look beautiful? :-D
You'll see.

Lets get started with the tutorial.
We'll need:
Many empty rolls of paper towel/toilet paper(depends on the design you want to make).
Hot glue gun and glue sticks
Paint(Spray paint would be more convenient)
Clothespins
A pair of scissors
Wall mounting squares

Divide the roll into equal sized sections. Mark with a pencil if you can't eyeball it.

Squash the roll slightly to give it an oval shape which makes it easier to cut.

Cut out sections from all the rolls.

Then paint them. Brown was the colour I chose. If you are using spray paint, then you can glue all the pieces together and spray at the end. I used water colours, so I found it more convenient to paint them first.
Let it dry for a few hours.

I tried various designs by just laying out the pieces together.

I finally decided on this design(below). This looked good with the number of painted pieces I had. This pic was taken before gluing them , but doesn't it look nice already?? :-)

Stick the pieces together with hot glue. I used clothespin to prevent them from falling apart(a few seconds is more than enough).

Here's  how it looked after sticking them all together.

And finally mount it on the wall, step back and admire. :-)

Doesn't it look amazing?
It brings a smile on my face every time I clap eyes on it.

Well, this upcycled project on Earth Day indeed adorns my living room wall.
Till I post again!

    1. Exactly. It is the most inexpensive, yet beautiful piece of art.
I felt bad about the same thing, before I actually started collecting.
Hahaha I like the reason you plan to give. Guess you'll get a less weirder expression from your hubby :-D

  3. What a lovely piece of art! Another idea would be to use the roll to make candles. Try it next time.
